Today we went to the Lithuanian ward, and it was wonderful! There were about 6 Elders and 2 Sister missionaries that translated for us, they are all from America and like 4 are from Utah! The ward itself has about 30 members and many of them speak a little English, one of the members just returned from serving a mission herself from Arizona so her English is very very good!
The bishop speaks no English but he talked to us through the Elders and he was VERY funny! There are many investigators in the ward and during the gospel doctrine class someone asked where God came from and as the Elder was interpreting he told us the question and said "oh no, this is going to get too deep." Other members were responding to him saying things like "God doesn't have a body, he is just a spirit." The Elders the whole time were like God has a body of flesh and bones by the way, and they tried to explain that to the members. The gospel is very new here they told us, so a lot of the details of the gospel are still hazy and confusing to them.
The crazy thing is that even though it isn't perfect, these people LOVE this church. They don't fully understand it yet but they know it's true, you can hear it through their testimonies (even though the Elders are still shaky on the language so our translations weren't great) their love for the true church and for their Savior and each other is so strong! The people in Lithuania are some of the kindest people I have ever met, they are very unapproachable and rough on the outside but once they open up to you they are full of love and generosity. The cool thing was at church they were just smiling and hugging us and they didn't even know us (which never happens here, you would never acknowledge or smile at a stranger...it just doesn't happen) so it was very strange but made me feel a lot more at home!
Talking to all the American Elders made me miss home very much though! I just kept thinking of all their family and friends out there that would give anything to be able to talk to them and see them, and here we are getting to be with them! It was really great :) Also the sister want to hang out with us on their p day and invited us to go on splits with them!
In other news we asked Diema (our native coordinator) if he would find an orphanage that we could go to, so I am very excited about that! Today will be my first day teaching, so hopefully i goes okay!
Sorry that was a lot of words :) Here are some funny pictures we took, they thought photo booth was just the coolest!
