Riga!

This weekend was our first 3 day weekend! We went to Riga, Latvia and stayed in the best hostel! I fell in love with this city it was so beautiful and alive, everyone was so kind and it was like 9 degrees (which is much warmer than we are used to in Vilnius) so that was wonderful :)
We took a first class bus on our way their, it was SO great! Four hours later we arrived in a new country and explored the city for the rest of the day :)

 The central market was GIGANTIC...

So funny story about this frame, they have them everywhere for people to take pictures by. So on this one we got the bright idea to take an action shot jumping through the frame...

To say I face planted it is a understatement...apparently my clumsiness followed me across the seas, this fall was not the first and sure won't be the last! Face plant in Riga, check :)

We just happened to walk in this beautiful little spot as the sun was hitting it just right :) In the very back is their freedom monument of a woman with her hands in the air, it was very cool!

Another lock bridge, these are all over the place in Europe, each little lock with a story :)

On Saturday we took a train to a small little town on the cost of the Baltic Sea, or the gulf of Riga to be exact. There were trees (i felt a little more at home) it was a cute woodsy town with old cabins and cottages! This place is really popping i the summer time, hopefully we will make it back when it gets warmer!  Something about this little town just stuck with me, I never wanted to leave! Vecaki, I will see you again someday :)

The hair flips :)

After all these beach pictures I biffed it pretty hard on the ice, my second  major fall in Riga haha! Slip on the Baltic Sea, check :)

Where the train dropped us off in Vecaki, we were pretty worried we were in the middle of no where at first! Hardly anything was open, lucky we eventually found the sea :)

We were like, oh good we can go inside and ask someone for a map or something...nope. Not a door open or a soul in sight, apparently almost everything is shut down for the winter here haha!

Awh aren't we cute :) We had to wait an awful long time in the cold for our train back so Emilie and I decided to take advantage of it.

On our final day we took one more walk about the city :) Riga was similar to Vilnius just taller and more people, no matter how far we walked in just kept going! It's strange how sometimes I forget where I am, I get so used to everything that it just feels like everyday. Then those moments come when I open my eyes a little wider and look around me, I am surround my historic beauty! The detail in every building, the character of it all, and every unique person we meet who shares a part of their story with us...it is a truly blissful world!

One of my favorite parts about this city is how beautiful it gets all night! All those cute street lights and the glow from all the frozen water, and the people! Our nights were full of karaoke and dancing :) I LOVED it! Our last night we found a T.G.I. Fridays!!! It was SO good and flavorful (you don't really get spices often, everything is very bland) we were all so happy to feel a little American comfort!

Some of our friends we meet in Riga :)

Till next time,
 paka :)

Cheers to the weekend!

Oh boy oh boy I thought weekends were something to look forward to as a student, as a teacher it's like Christmas! Two week of school down, I've got this :)
This week I got lots of cute things from my little ones:
In class they were asked to write a letter to someone, I got this from my little brother :)

My Prince Charming:

Teacher Lilly :)

A "BAD Monster Truck!" This ends up on every paper I had this little one...

Last night we made some friends! Emilie and I went for crepes but for some reason the last bus back to our house never came.. It was 2 degrees, SO humid so everything is ice, and snowing...dark and cold!! It's about a 30 min bus ride home so we were going to have to walk a LONG way! Luckily there was a guy and girl at the stop who spoke English and they also had missed the bus, long story short one of their friends came and dropped us off near our flats! It was a HUGE blessing!!! We were very fortunate, plus they are really cool and want to hang out tonight and introduce us to more people :) Other then mild frost bit on my toes (really though) it was a good night!

Today we took a little bus ride to Trakai Castle Island :) SO beautiful!! Also I just want to say that the snow here is SO SPARKLY here!!! Like vampire SPARKLY ;) haha it's beautiful, I can't stop talking about how SPARKLY it is!! :)  in love ❤

 AJ's Chocolates :)

Trakai is a small little town and all the houses are different colors, super cute :)

Not quite sure what this sign meant...

The little lock bridge :)

Cool hair in front of the Castle

Walking out of the castle...

Next weekend Riga, Latvia :) it's pretty much like the Paris of the north they say...I guess we will see!
